Helping Couples through Sand Therapy and Play Therapy
Presenter: Eliana Gil, Ph.D., LMFT, RPT-S, CST-S/T, ATR, REAT
Description: This virtual workshop will demonstrate the use of play, art, and sand therapies when working with couples. Specifically, play therapy techniques for decreasing hesitancy and arriving at underlying worries and concerns will be highlighted. The concept is for couples to share information symbolically, so that deeper significance can be viewed, valued, and addressed. Throughout the workshop, clinical illustrations will show the efficacy of this approach.
Date: February 27, 2026
Time: 10 am – 2:15 pm Eastern time
Objectives:
1. Provide two examples of how play therapy can benefit the identification of presenting problems for couples
2. Provide two play therapy methods of working with couples in the sand tray
3. List two reasons that provide a rationale for incorporating play therapy into couples’ work
4. Provide two play therapy directive strategies that might elicit a more significant discussion
