Introduction to Nature Play Therapy

Presenter: Angela M. Cavett, PhD, LP, RPT-S, RST-C/T

Description: Nature provides an ideal play therapy space for healing and transformation. Throughout history, people across cultures have interacted with and related to nature to promote healing and wellness. There is evidence that Nature Play decreases anxiety, depression, ADHD, and stress. Nature Play Therapy can be used to improve self-esteem, resiliency, creativity, and problem solving.

This workshop provides information about mindfulness, labyrinths, metaphors, ethical concerns, and the creation of Healing Gardens. Nature-based metaphors will be explored as a way to provide emotional distance while honoring client defenses. Ethical considerations, including informed consent, will be identified and discussed. Participants will also learn about outdoor therapeutic spaces and how to develop Healing Gardens, including the use of labyrinths for healing and reflection.

Date: April 25, 2026
