Time: 9:00 AM to 1:15 PM (please note this is Central Time)
Description:
This four-hour training introduces Therapeutic Digital Play Therapy™ (DPT) as a clinically grounded way to understand and work with children’s digital play in session. Participants will review the foundations of DPT, examine common play themes as they appear in digital environments, and practice methods for identifying and documenting play themes using structured observation.
The training also provides a practical tour of commonly used hardware and software platforms, with clinical considerations for selecting tools that fit a child’s needs, goals, and access. Emphasis is placed on clinical decision-making, theme detection, and real-world application so participants can return to practice with greater confidence, sharper observation, and an expanded digital play toolkit.
Learning Objectives
Participants will define Therapeutic Digital Play Therapy™ and differentiate it from both virtual play therapy and general technology use.
Participants will identify core play themes as expressed through digital play and link observed themes to clinical formulation and treatment goals.
Participants will apply structured observation strategies to recognize and document play themes in DPT sessions using case material or recorded exemplars.
Participants will evaluate a range of digital play platforms, including software and hardware, and select tools aligned with clinical intent, ethical practice, and practical constraints such as access, privacy, and development.
