About the event

Program name: Honoring Protective Responses from Disenfranchised Clients

Presenter: Marshall Lyles, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S, RPT-S, EMDRIA Approved Consultant

Date: August 18, 2026

Time: 6p - 8p (Central time)

Description: In many healing settings, “resistance” is framed as a barrier to progress. For clients from marginalized and historically oppressed communities, this framing can miss something essential. What appears as resistance is often a deeply intelligent protective response shaped by experiences of harm, exclusion, systemic inequity, and cultural mistrust.

This live webinar invites healers to reframe these moments through a culturally responsive lens. Participants will explore through expressive modalities how protective responses are not only personal, but often rooted in intergenerational, social, and structural contexts.

Throughout the two hours, we will examine how healing relationships can be experienced as unsafe or invalidating when power, privilege, and difference are left unaddressed. Participants will learn how to meet protective responses with cultural humility, curiosity, and respect for the client’s adaptive wisdom.

This webinar is designed for healers committed to equity-informed practice, deepened attunement, and transforming moments of perceived disconnection into opportunities for repair and trust-building.

Registration information: There will be no CEs offered and will be open to anyone who identifies as a healer. In an effort to make this content as accessible as possible, attendance will be available for free if needed.
