Using the Adult Attachment Interview in Clinical Work with Expressive Therapies

    Date: August 8-9, 2024

    Time: 9 am - 4:30 pm (all days-Central time)

Hours: 12 CEs congruent with Texas requirements are offered.

Description: Utilizing the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) presents trained clinicians with multiple streams of attachment data about their clients’ lived experiences and current relational patterns. This workshop will discuss the history of the AAI’s development as a research tool before focusing on how to apply these interview questions to clinical work with clients in expressive therapies sessions. This workshop does not prepare clinicians to score the AAI for established attachment patterns, but instead focuses on clinical usage.

    Learning objectives:
         1. Identify the basic tenets of attachment theory
         2. Discuss the development of the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI)
         3. Discuss key concepts from relational neuroscience that are relevant to the AAI
         4. Discuss the usage of the AAI as a clinical tool (vs a research tool)
         5. Apply sandtray therapy techniques to working with AAI content
         6. Discuss methods for executing different art techniques to elicit AAI material
         7. Describe expressive writing processes that welcome AAI cooperation
         8. Describe directive vs nondirective methods of capturing AAI material
         9. Describe how to relationally navigate complexities that arise from moments of surprising the unconscious through attachment work
         10. Discuss ethical considerations in clinical usage of the AAI
         11. Apply AAI concepts to a presented case study that features the expressive arts
         12. Discuss a sample treatment plan based on information gathered from AAI questions

Registration information: The registration fee is $360.
The training will occur at The Workshop, 300 Allen St., Austin, TX, 78702.

Cancellation policy: Registration is non-refundable, but half of the fee may be transferred to a future training if someone from a waitlist fills the spot.
