Making room at the table:

Date:
August 26-27, 2022
Time:
9 am - 4:45 pm (both days-Central time)
Hours:
12 education hours can be earned for attending this training as consistent with Texas Board requirements
Description:
Dissociation is a misunderstood and mistreated protector as clinicians are often taught to fear this nervous system adaptation. While dissociation does require special care, clients deserve to have these parts of self to be welcomed into their therapeutic work. Sandtray therapy, when handled carefully, can be utilized in learning to recognize dissociative pockets in clients and provide these states the messages of support they deserve. This workshop will explore these concepts through lecture, case examples, group discussion, and experiential activities.
Learning objectives:
Discuss dissociation from a nervous system point-of-view
Describe the various other protective states engaged by body and mind when under threat
Discuss methods of assessing for dissociation in clinical interviews
Explain the basic tenets of sandtray therapy
Describe sandtray adaptations when working with complex trauma
Discuss sandtray client behaviors that can reveal pockets of dissociation
Describe ways to use the sand tray for psychoeducation about dissociation
Discuss ways for effectively working with spontaneous emergence of dissociation during sandtray therapy sessions
