When felt safety isn't an easy option: EMDR with culturally complex situations

    Description: EMDR can be an efficient way to work through the impact of trauma, but efficiency looks very different among various categories of pain and struggle. This webinar will address the difficulties that come when trauma intersects with culturally complex situations and how EMDR treatment planning needs to consider the unique circumstances related to identity-based wounds. Drawing from examples around working with client populations such as immigrants and refugees, people with disabilities, and others, participants will be challenged to practice cultural humility and responsive sensitivity to the unfolding needs of their clients through all phases of EMDR treatment.

    Objectives:
    1. Discuss effective history taking from a culturally humble perspective that allows for compassionate EMDR treatment planning
    2. Describe the resourcing complexities accompanying the internalization of felt safety for people with identity-based traumas
    3. Discuss how to identify EMDR targets with clients who have histories of intergenerational trauma and current culturally complex situations
