Hours:
12 APT contact
education hours (with 3 hours of ethics) can be earned for attending this live, in person training.
Description:
As sandtray-based play therapy practitioners, we volunteer our right brains to be in connection with the right brains of our clients. In order to step into this sacred, relational responsibility ethically, sandtray-based play therapists need self practices for working with their own person-of-the-therapist themes outside of client contact as well as practices for noticing and handling these themes as they arise during sessions. This highly experiential workshop will explore these practices and address the relevant ethics.
Learning objectives:
Participants will:
Discuss the relevance of person-of-the-therapist research to sandtray-based play therapy
Explain relational neuroscience that informs person-of-sandtray-therapist (POST) concepts
Evaluate prominent play therapy clinical theories’ positions on roles of the sandtray therapist
Apply signature theme work to POST sand world prompts
Identify methods for sand journaling to maintain ethical awareness of POST
Explore play therapy techniques in the sand as a method for self-evaluation as an effective sandtray therapist
Apply lessons learned from POST exploration to the handling of activating moments while in sandtray-based play therapy sessions
Discuss relevant ethical codes from APT and other therapeutic associations to monitoring and addressing POST
