    Remaining Trauma-Sensitive in Expressive Play Therapy:
    ​Using Sand Tray for Effective Window of Tolerance Work

    Description: Play therapy offers powerful opportunity for trauma repair and sand tray is a mainstay playroom tool for trauma work with all ages. From prompting to processing, play therapists can utilize sand trays for monitoring and expanding clients’ tolerance of contact with stressful content. This training will discuss play therapy practice as it relates to holding space for traumatized clients in the sand tray.

    Learning objectives:
    1. Discuss the applicability of trauma-informed play therapy will all ages of clients through use of the sand tray
    2. Describe the play therapist’s role in expanding clients’ windows of tolerance in the sandtray
    3. Plan for use of effective play therapy reflection skills that are frequently needed in sand tray trauma-intensive moments
