Sandtray Therapy Basics - An Expressive Play Therapy Approach for Clients of All Ages

Description:
Available to all pre-licensed and licensed mental health professionals, this 4-day workshop will blend lecture, discussion, and experience as the basic skills and protocols of sandtray-based play therapy for use with all ages are introduced in a manner that honors the power of attuned connection. Over the series, participants will be exposed to historical development of the use of sandtray within play therapy, sandtray use from the vantage point of different play therapy clinical theories, and attachment-aware/trauma-sensitive sandtray-based considerations. This highly interactive training will ask the participants to actively experience the concepts being taught throughout the series.

Objectives:
Discuss how the history of sandtray therapy and play therapy evolved into current day practices
Discuss the integration of a chosen play therapy clinical theory with the cross-theoretical modality of sandtray therapy
Describe how the awareness of and connection to play therapy materials are applicable to executing sandtray sessions
Discuss standard practices and protocols of sandtray and how to integrate into play therapy with all ages
Apply knowledge of play therapy reflective skills and theme analysis to sandtray case studies
Practice sandtray sessions in practice play therapy simulations
Describe the trauma-sensitive components of sandtray-based play therapy
Identify considerations for creating a trauma-sensitive sandtray space in your play therapy room
List at least three ways to establish safety in the therapeutic relationship using sandtray-based play therapy
Create trauma-informed treatment plans for sandtray-based play therapy
Discuss play therapy methods for processing sand world narratives that attachment complexities
Discuss person of the play therapist themes relevant to maintaining deep trauma work with clients
