    Sandtray Training:

    Day 1: Using Sandtray Protocols in Play Therapy

    Presenter: Marshall Lyles, LPC-S, LMFT-S, RPT-S, EMDRIA Approved Consultant

    Description: The modality of sandtray allows for implementation of play therapy skills with a wide variety of age groups, making it an efficient tool for practitioners serving diverse populations. Available to all licensed mental health professionals, this workshop will blend lecture, discussion, and play-based experiences as the basic skills and protocols of sandtray-based play therapy are introduced and practiced.

    Objectives:
    1. Understand how the history of sandtray therapy and play therapy evolved into current day practices
    2. Increase awareness of and connection to play therapy materials applicable to executing sandtray sessions
    3. Know standard practices and protocols of sandtray and how to integrate into play therapy with all ages
    4. Apply knowledge of play therapy reflective skills and theme analysis to sandtray case studies
    5. Lead sandtray sessions in practice play therapy simulations
    6. Receive coaching on sandtray and play therapy skills

    Workshop date: Thursday, September 20, 2018

    Schedule:
    8:45 am – Check-in
    9:00 am – 10:30 am – History of sandtray
    10:30 am – 10:45 am – Break
    10:45 am – 12:15 pm – Sandtray materials
    12:15 pm – 1:15 pm - Lunch
    1:15 pm – 2:45 pm – Mechanics of a sandtray session
    2:45 pm – 3 pm - Break
    3:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Demo and practice

    6 APT-approved direct contact education hours (sponsored by Marshall Lyles, APT Approved Provider 17-508) will be provided.

    Cost: $150

    Payment is due at registration.  Only cancellations received 2 weeks prior to the course will be reimbursed minus a $50 fee.

    Day 2: Treating Adult Trauma with Sandtray Therapy: A Multi-Generational Play Therapy Approach 

    Presenters:
     Marshall Lyles, LPC-S, LMFT-S, RPT-S, EMDRIA Approved Consultant & Cristy Ragland, LPC-S, LMFT-S

    Description: The expressive arts modality of sandtray therapy, as with other play therapy applications, are right-brain approaches to accessing and processing traumatic material. This enhances safety in the therapeutic relationship and promotes gentle exploration of difficult content, which is essential to effective trauma work. As a trans-theoretical modality, sandtray therapy can be integrated with several trauma-informed clinical theories and play therapy skills can be seamlessly utilized during all phases of sandtray session protocols. This workshop will address these ideas through discussion, experiential activities and case study analysis.

    Objectives:
    1.Review basic sandtray protocols and play therapy advanced skills
    2.Understand necessary play therapy and sandtray protocol adaptations for adult work
    3.Discuss the interpersonal neurobiology components at work in adult-focused play therapy
    4.Address trauma-informed components of adult-based play therapy and sandtray materials/protocols
    5.Practice play therapy case conceptualization skills through sandtray case study analysis
    6.Lead a practice sandtray session with emphasis on utilization of play therapy’s advanced skill of enlarging the meaning

    10:30 am – 10:45 am – Break
    10:45 am – 12:15 pm – Address basics of trauma-informed care and modifications for adult work in the sand

    1:15 pm – 2:45 pm – Apply material through case study analysis and sandtray demo
    2:45 pm – 3 pm – Break
    3:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Sandtray practice
