Hours: 12 APT contact education hours can be earned for attending this training. This course is seeking EMDRIA approval for credit, but this is not yet complete.

Description: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), due in part to its significant empirical support, is widely used for the treatment of all types of trauma with multiple clinical populations. However, as with all models and theories, knowledge of play therapy is needed in order to most effectively and ethically use EMDR with children. This workshop will help therapists understand the mechanisms of EMDR (based on AIP theory) and how it integrates with sandtray-based play therapy. Additionally, attachment-informed adaptations to EMDR processes allow for children to address trauma while increasing secure connection to caregivers.

Learning objectives:

Identify the basic tenets of EMDR
Discuss how EMDR concepts are integrated with play therapy/expressive arts techniques
Practice play therapy-based EMDR treatment planning using the sandtray
Practice EMDR resourcing through sandtray and other expressive play techniques
Discuss strategies for using play therapy resources during EMDR reprocessing
Identify a plan for accomplishing future template work in the sand tray
